Discipleship

Citylight exists to make disciples of Jesus to the glory of God.

A disciple is a follower of Jesus, someone who has been made alive by the grace of God in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Discipleship means helping one another follow Jesus together.

Therefore, discipleship groups are same-gender groups of 2–4 followers of Jesus who meet regularly to connect, read and apply Scripture, and pray for one another. Discipleship groups typically form through existing Citylight relationships.

How to get started

Get started in a discipleship group by inviting 1-3 other same-gender people to join you in reading and applying Scripture together. Then decide on a passage of Scripture to focus on, and frequency and duration for meeting together, for example once per week for six months.

1. Connect

Spend a few moments connecting with one another.

2. Read Scripture

Each meeting, read a portion of Scripture together.

3. Apply Scripture

God: What do you learn about God from this passage?
Man: What do you see about humankind in this passage?
Christ: How does this passage point us to Christ? Or, how do we see the gospel in this passage?
Response: Based on what this passage says about God, man (you), and Christ, how will you respond?

4. Pray Together

Ask God boldly for any needs of group members and pray for one another related to understanding and applying the Scripture discussed.
